For men, Fall is all about the unstructured jacket. These aren't your dad's sport coat - they're softer, slimmer, and cooler during a changeable Seattle fall. Because they're constructed without Bemberg linings, the natural fibers breathe beautifully but still provide a subtle warmth on chilly days. The pricepoint is competitive too - none of Luigi Bianchi's "L.B.M." jackets retail over $1500, with most of them in the $795 territory.

"Spezzato" is the Italian word for "broken," but it's used to describe a popular style of soft, unlined, unconstructed jacket/pant. These jackets flex beautifully between dress and casual wear because they look terrific with both dressy wool slacks and casual jeans and chinos.  This particular jacket is a GORGEOUS color perfect for fall and for early spring, and even makes a nice outerwear alternative for really nippy days.  It's the DEAL OF THE DAY at $499, a third of its retail price and an excellent investment piece. This season, in addition to the Cantarelli Jersey Planet soft jackets, we are featuring Sartoria Cantarelli, a lightweight suit with a hint of traditional Sartorial construction. Each Sartoria Cantarelli jacket is made with the lightest canvas and just a sliver of shoulderpad, while maintaining their legendary feather-soft feel. This particular suit, though it doesn't read well in the photo, has a beautiful micro-stripe in the fabric, which adds some interesting 3-dimensionality to the material without clashing with your shirt or tie.

Cantarelli's soft, lightweight linen/wool blend jacket dresses up as easily as it dresses down, very much like Pier Antonio Gaspari's crystal-pleat chiffon over-vest. Both of them pair beautifully with slacks, as shown, but can be worn dressed-down easily. The fabrics travel well (particularly the blazer, as the wool in the fabric keeps the linen from looking too distressed), and the taupe/chocolate colors make existing fall pieces in your wardrobe look great right now - as long as they aren't too heavy.

Aren't they a cute pair? The suit is a fabulous wool and mohair blend with a touch of silk in it - it catches the light with a subtle sheen and a micro-check pattern incorporated into the fabric. The overblouse (paired with a viscose tank-slip) is the lightest chiffon, the very shallow pleats adding texture but not weight.

 This garment is about as Italian as they come...a trim (but not tight) fit, with a narrow (but not skinny) pant, it's hand-finished and garment dyed for an unusual finish and a fabulous handfeel. Wear these two pieces together as a suit, or separate the jacket and pant for a more casual look.  Available in a Cantarelli 58R (US 46R).

When we say "Unconstructed," we're referring to the lack of canvas structure and shoulder pad that is traditional in sport coat (or suit) construction. These jackets have a dressy feel thanks to their suitlike silhouettes, but their casual fabrics and soft, easy fit are perfect for dressing up or dressing down.

Cantarelli is a totally Italian-made brand for a guy who is a little more mature, either in age or in identity, but who still wants something stylish and current. The brand features innovative fabrics (often from the Barbera family's mills) including their "Planet Jersey" wool and cotton stretch materials, which pair beautifully with their signature unconstructed silhouettes. The fit is easy - not too slim, not too full - with stylish touches like patch pockets and a higher notch on the lapel.
