It’s all ones and zeroes nowadays, isn't it? Take this exquisite blue leather jacket from Gimos ($1995), the craftspeople from Padua who for 50 years have been doing one (1) thing and one thing only: fashioning exquisite leather into contemporary styles that combine elegance, practicality and just enough flash. We've always raved about the technical aspects of Culturata shirts. The fabric is not dyed, the yarn that makes the fabric is dyed. A little bit meta? Well, if you consider impeccably fitting softness meta…not to mention the Cortigiani zip mock ($575)

Anyway, wear your hot new shirt ($215) with a cool new Nicky tie ($195), and jeans by Citizens of Humanity ($265), the company that wrote the code for designer denim. And, should an admirer be overcome and commence ripping them off, we’re here for you. We’ll find you another pair.

THE CROSSOVER STAR

A little bit classic, a little bit rocker chic, a little bit like if Grace Kelly met Rhianna and they started going everywhere together. The black sweater is by Cividini ($635), and showcases this Italian husband and wife team’s ability to seamlessly combine luxe, i.e. gold metallic flourishes, with

daily-wearability. The silken abstract printed tank is by D’Exterior ($265), who made knitwear for

Jean-Paul Gaultier for years before branching out. Taking a cue from the 'enfant terrible' of French fashion, they know when to tone it down, but not tone it down too much, n’est-ce pas?

Finish the look with a pair of graphic patterned pants that are going to look good at a rave or a symphony, with anything from a t-shirt to…well, a silken tank and a perfect black cardigan!

THE INDIE STAR

Picture this: a humble line of clothing sets out in 2001 with nothing but raw talent and a crazy notion that glitz is not the story - the story is style. They called it “Transit” and soon everybody wanted a piece. “Transit” dominated awards season, and true to its independent nature it walked the red carpet in a driftwood-colored linen jacket ($695), ivory shirt ($325), zip cardigan ($675) and chocolate pant ($675). It took its Mom as a date.

In its acceptance speech Transit thanked his crew – linen, silk and cotton – for their hard work and for always being there, like for eons, since they are the real stars and all Transit did was give them new direction. Then things got kind of emotional and he vowed to never work with anyone else. You could hear the audience gasp.

It was awesome.

THE STORMCHASER

When they said “Put it where the sun don’t shine,” they meant “Bring this resin coated, waterproof striped coat by Moorer ($935) to Seattle.” So we did. The exclusive fabric has undergone challenges that put a crash-test dummy to shame - pulled and stretched and pelted mercilessly with shower after shower...buttons yanked, and told to stay put no matter what.

Flowers need rain too, so pair your new coat with a handprinted floral shell ($645) from Cividini, the husband and wife team who began with cashmere knitwear and now address the needs of the modern woman. Add a black skirt that is both fabulous and hard-working from Maison Martin Margiela ($745), the Belgian-born knitwear master who for 25 years has combined the avant-garde and the classic to brilliant effect. Now - go out and play in the rain.

THE ARMCHAIR TRAVELER

 This Samuelsohn suit, you see, took the long way to Seattle. (Say that ten times fast.) Since 1923 Samuelsohn has sourced wools from Italy and Great Britain, and rare silks and cashmeres from Asia. They then fashion them into garments in Montreal for a very particular - and particularly international - clientele. With full-canvas construction, hand-sewn details, durability and style, this suit will take you anywhere (and anywhere it can’t take you, a Samuelsohn all-season water-resistant 12-pocket travel blazer can. But that’s a story for another time). Pair this suit ($1395) with a shirt ($345) and tie ($165) from Giorgio Armani, the perfectionist whose “things” now include home furnishings, hotels, resorts, restaurants, cafés, clubs, fine jewelry, perfumes, flowers and yachts, started with a shirt and a tie.
